What Matters Now

9 01 2010

A few days ago I happened across a document that piqued my interest. It is concept from the mind of Seth Godin, a famous author, blogger, and public speaker regarding all manner of marketing topics. This document is entitled, “What Matters Now” and contains eighty-two pages of insights from many other famous folks from all persuasions.

As I read this interesting work, specific pages and phrases resonated within me. I took the time today to highlight those special passages and insert bookmarks in the PDF linked in the previous passage. A few of my favorite segments are shown below:What Matters Now?

Enough by Merlin Mann

How do you know when you’ve had “enough?”
Not everything, all the time, completely, forever.
Just enough. Enough to start, finish, or simply maintain
.

Productivity by Gina Trapani

Don’t worry too much about getting things done.
Make things happen
.

Strengths by Marti Barletta

So quit diligently developing your weaknesses.
Instead, partner with someone very UNlike you,
share the work and share the wealth and everyone’s happy
.

I hope you enjoy flipping through these pages as much as I did. And thankfully, letting you have free download access to this excellent work is sanctioned by the authors on page two, “feel free to share this.”

New Year’s Resolutions

1 01 2010

The act of making resolutions at the start of a new year is as old as the hills. And although I’ve chosen not to publish such a list for the past few years, I think its time to start again. To neglect the posting of a list, even if you’re just recording it on paper in the privacy of your own home, is to give in to insecurities about mustering the courage to at least attempt to make those resolutions happen.

So here is my list. 2010 Resolutions on a ScrollIt’s just five items.

A number of sub topics need development to clarify how I’ll achieve each of the main points shown. Fortunately, it turns out that these goals are more likely to be achieved simply by recording them. Even though they are rather typical, I think each one has amazing potential to enrich my life. Check out this stat:

Men achieved their goal 22% more often when they engaged in goal setting, a system where small measurable goals are used (lose a pound a week, instead of saying “lose weight”), while women succeeded 10% more when they made their goals public and got support from their friends.

I’m game to give it a go. And time will tell how I’m doing in each potential area of improvement. Wish me luck . . .

Monster Bash Halloween 2009

29 10 2009

This is a fun little video I created at JibJab.com.

I took some liberties with the character roles since Becky is Dr. Frankenstein and her sister Lisa is bride of Frankenstein’s monster. You can guess who’s face is on the monster, eh? It just seemed funnier with Beck doing the lead as the Doc. Andrew is the Wolfman and Evan is Dracula.
